Outstanding Student Award 2018/19


The Lee Woo Sing College Outstanding Student Award is a prestigious award for its students, commending their outstanding achievements. It aims to encourage promising students who not only exhibit academic excellence, but also outstanding all-round development, leadership skills, engagements in societal services, efforts in promoting and supporting environmental protection initiatives, significant contribution to the College, and sports achievement. The awardees are expected to represent the College as role models for fellow students.

106 Awards were presented to students nominated by teachers and College student union, and selected by a professional panel in 2015 to 2018. Starting from 2018/19, the Award accepts both nominations and application from individual student. The 2018/19 Award is now open for nominations and applications. There are up to 30 quotas for Award in this year. The nominated candidates will be required to attend a panel interview.

Nomination & Application

The College Master, Fellows & affiliated teachers, College Secretary & College Development Officers, and WSSU President (Year 2018/19) may submit nominees for the award. Starting from 2018/19, the Award accepts application from individual student. Nominations and applications are due at the College Office by 20th February 2019. Previous awardees are not eligible for the award in the same category, but possible for being nominated in a different category.

Criteria

The nominated candidates of all the above categories must meet the two basic requirements:
a) good conduct; and
b) support College values and culture.

The selected awardees must demonstrate his/her willingness to be the College student ambassadors in the future.

Selection criteria for judging students (All-round Development) include all the criteria listed below:

1) Outstanding results in current academic studies;
2) Active participation in extracurricular activities and University/ College activities;
3) Demonstrated a high level of leadership skills, commitment in green education and participation in societal services;

Selection criteria for judging students (Leadership Skills) include all the criteria listed below:

1) Demonstrated visionary leadership in coordinating initiatives that involve the cooperation and collaboration of additional individuals and/or organizations;
2) Initiated activities or programs that enhance College student experience in the College;
3) Satisfactory results in current academic studies;

Selection criteria for judging students (Achievements in Sports) include all the criteria listed below:

1) Outstanding results in sports activities, College/ University sports teams;
2) Satisfactory results in current academic studies;

Selection criteria for judging students (Other categories) include all the criteria listed below:

1) Demonstrated excellence in engagements and organization of activities in social experience / arts and culture appreciation/ environmental sustainability initiatives/ College services/ promotion of Caring & positive living;
2) Outstanding contribution to fellow students, College, University and/or the community;
3) Satisfactory results in current academic studies;

Selection

A selection panel comprised of College Master, Associate Master, College Dean of Students, Chairman of Admission Committee, College Secretary, WSSU President (Year 2018/19) (or a representative nominated by WSSU President) will evaluate the submitted nominations using weighted criteria that are based on all the items mentioned above.

Announcement of results and presentation ceremony

Selected candidates (the awardees) will receive the awards at the Award Presentation Ceremony to be held on 4th April 2019 (7:00pm-8:15pm). An award certificate and an award medal will be given to the awardees. Family and friends of awardees will be invited to attend the ceremony.
