#9 Organic farming experience 都市農夫體驗

Some friends of mine have been the metropolitan farmers for some time. Their sharing of the good things about being a farmer is that one can enjoy fresh and organic farm-to-dish veggies and a refreshing moment that can bring us back to the basic needs. About a month ago, I took the chance to join the college organic farming scheme and started my plan of being a metro farmer! (Stay tuned for the organic farming scheme in the next semester)

Farming can be an art and require expert knowledge. I have been planting flowers and mosses at home, but I know nothing about farming edible plants. So I have studied books and other information from my farmer friends. But there is something that you can only learn from experiences, not on papers. The books have never told me that weeding the soil will bring families of insects and cockroaches to the surface. One won’t know that it takes a month to prepare the organic fertilizers from scratch until reading through every sentence of that chapter. Although I have learned about nitrogen, phosphate, and potassium as a science student, I have totally forgotten their uses in farming. Well, it’s always difficult to get started! Though I have not experienced the good things about being a farmer as yet, I will keep my goal and do my best! Let me share the progress with you next time.

From this message, you know:

Books are references, it's more fun to get your hands on

Read thoroughly, not just the title

It’s when you need the knowledge that you regret you are not learning enough
